About Volunteering
Getting involved with a fire department is an incredibly rewarding way to make a positive contribution to your community. Plus, it is often a stepping stone to starting a career with the fire service. Volunteers are an integral part of the departments ability to provide service to the South Kitsap region. South Kitsap Fire & Rescue volunteers respond to emergency incidents, provide support to the department through staffing events and support departmental staffing needs on department apparatus.
Volunteers come from all walks of life; the community member who lives near the fire station and wants to give back to their neighbors, the aspiring firefighter who wants training and experience with the goal of getting hired by a career fire department, the college student who seeks a career in medicine or public health and wants to gain real hands-on experience at the front lines of the U.S. healthcare system, or the professional who is established in their career and wants to enjoy the camaraderie and excitement of the fire service.
Suppression Volunteers
Suppression volunteers are trained and equipped to respond to emergency scenes and perform firefighting and other emergency response activities. They regularly participate in fighting fires, providing emergency medical care and in fire prevention activities. Whether you desire a career in the fire service or wish to serve your local community, this practical experience is priceless in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in the fire service.
Support Volunteers
Support volunteers play a critical role in providing service to the community. They provide necessary support to meet the district’s mission by engaging in a variety of functions and roles including air and rehabilitation response and support, water tender response, first responder support, wildland fire response, and Chaplain duties.
